Decide to get your blood sugar tested.
The best decision for people at high risk for prediabetes is to get a blood sugar test as soon as possible. A blood sugar test will show for sure if you have higher than normal levels of sugar (“glucose”) in your blood. You also will be setting a good example for other people who may be at high risk for prediabetes.

If you have no insurance, find a Federally Qualified Health Center near you by clicking below on the county where you live. If a blood sugar test shows you do have prediabetes, make sure to do two more things.
If you do have prediabetes, it can be reversed. Research shows that doing just two things can help cut your risk of type 2 diabetes in half: lose 5% to 7% of your body weight, which would be 10 to 14 pounds for a 200-pound person; and get at least 150 minutes each week of physical activity, such as brisk walking. You can achieve these goals with the help of the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP).
